Sarah Proposed to Laura: A Lucky Peak Engagement

It happened 20th December, 2012 (or, why Sarah chose that date, 20/12/2012, and the last repeat date we will see in our lifetimes, fun fact).

I was completely clueless the entire day. Sarah had suggested going to P.F. Chang's in Downtown Boise as a payday celebration, and my parents told her there was a BSU basketball game going on in the area so we'd have to go early to pre-empt the crowd. I went upstairs to shower and get ready for Date Night at about 4:30pm.

I was finishing curling my hair when my mum came into the room and handed me a lovely card. It was from Sarah - she had left (how did she leave my house in a town where she can't drive and doesn't know many people??) and wanted me to meet her at Lucky Peak, a big beautiful reservoir close to my house where I took Sarah on our first trip to Idaho (when I was 20 years old!!).

And then it hit me - this was happening!! I thought maybe she wanted me to meet her up there to say some nice things, and she would propose at dinner. So I drove to Lucky Peak all giddy and excited and anxious and nervous but in a good way, and taking photos of myself (those last photos as an un-engaged lady may be worth something some day! (Hahaha or not, but it seemed a good idea at the time)).

Last known photo of a single lady
As I drove around the lake, the sun was starting to set, and the sky was turning all sorts of beautiful colours. I drove all the way around to the spot where we first watched the Boise sunset together, and as I pulled up, I saw her!!

Sarah was more beautiful than I'd ever seen her - she'd decorated a picnic area overlooking the water with pink fairy lights and 36 paper hearts - each with something she loves about me written on it. She'd also brought out a dozen beautiful red roses, Diet Coke (of course), candy canes, she'd put together a proposal playlist haha, and made a beautiful canvas of hundreds of photos of us - and amongst them was written Will You Marry Me?

As I walked up, my heart was in my throat, she got down on one knee, and immediately started crying happy tears. Her proposal speech was beautiful, and I of course eagerly said yes!!!

Afterwards, we watched a bit of the sun setting together and she showed me all the beautiful little details of her proposal. Then I noticed Alison, my friend who moved to London last year and became our friend, who had driven Sarah up there, helped set up, and filmed it!! What a wonderful friend!!

The icing on the already perfect cake was that my parents arrived about 10 minutes after it happened. Sarah had invited them up to celebrate with us!! She had asked my parents for my hand in marriage *swoon*, that's so romantic! - so they were in on the surprise. There is no-one I'd rather have seen at that moment, and they were over the moon to give us hugs and welcome Sarah to the family. I love them all so much!

And then we were one-half engaged.

We did go to P.F Chang's to celebrate in the evening with my parents, and I got this fortune.... WOAH, right? Mind blown!!

I love Sarah so much, more than anything in the whole world, and I'm so happy to get to be with her for the rest of my life. We always knew it would be the case, but now it's official - I'm the luckiest girl in the whole world!!!

Check back for part two in the next few days - my proposal to Sarah!! xoxoxo
